T.R.A.C.S --- TRACTOR RESTORATION & APPRECIATION CLUB SUNRAYSIA
FIRST MEETING
The inaugural meeting of the group which has become TRACS was held in the Resource Centre meeting Room in Red Cliffs on 9th February1999.
Interest in forming such a club stemmed from the Big Lizzie Tractor Festival held during 1998, and enough interest was shown to indicate that such
a club could be formed in its own right. Eleven potential members attended the first meeting, with 6 apologies. This meeting decided to form a club
and as a result, volunteers filled the roles of President and Secretary respectively, until the first AGM was called. The meeting decided on a subscription of $10, and the name Tractor Restoration & Appreciation Club Sunraysia was accepted.
Applications for incorporation, and attendant governmental requirements were applied for and/or completed.
ACTIVITIES
The TRACS first activity in July 1999 was a visit to the Ian Keen’s collection at Nangiloc, followed by a “play day” at Carwarp in October at the invitation of Bob Lampard. 13 members attended.
Barry Mills became the first guest speaker at a meeting when he attended the November 1999 meeting and spoke about the Mills Ferguson dealership.
There are mid-year get-togethers for informal tractor pulls. And “Around the sheds” are also popular. Recently there have been visits to S.A clubs, which ,in turn TRACS host the SA clubs. Several members participate in ‘tractor treks’. In fact a TRACS trek is being contemplate at present.
FIELD DAYS
TRACS was represented at the 2000 Field Days when several members trailed tractors which were displayed on site. These included a couple of Lanz ‘bulldogs’, a Chamberlain, and a Ford/Ferguson, among others. TRACS have had vehicles on display at every Field Day since.
TRACTOR PULL
During 2000 thoughts of a tractor pull crystallised and it was decided to run a pull in October at the Wilga road ground.
Working bees, etc put a fenced track in place; other fences were erected, a two height loading ramp was developed. These additions supplemented a toilet block already on the area. Since 2000 TRACS has run a tractor pull annually.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership at present stands at 110.
The membership fee is reviewed every year and takes into consideration the affiliation fee required by the National Historic Machinery Association, (NHMA) the parent body for such clubs as TRACS. At present the subscription is $50, part of which goes to the NHMA for personal insurance purposes, etc.
VEHICLES
We currently have 120 vehicles under the Club Permit Scheme, made up of Tractors, Trucks, Cars, Motor Cycles and Semi Trailers.
In addition there would be in excess of 600 Tractors in members sheds.
Thank you for your interest.
